stress and burnout

A lot of problems that cause these two phenomena could be easily reduced if teachers cooperated properly. Sharing knowledge and planning lessons together can help reduce work burden. For me this lack of cooperation, which obviously results from many factors, is one of the main reasons for stress and burnout. I would like to finish this post with recommending the article I found in the Quardian. HERE  you can find the link. If I were to sum the article up I would say it all boils down to cooperation an collaboration. There is no single  solution suggested in the article that does not base on the concept of collaboration and unless we as teachers change our mindset in order  to collaborate effectively, the work burden and stress will continue to mount.

PBL

So far in my teaching practice I have avoided using projects as to me it seems a tedious job to invent and carry out a project in a form that it should take. I have some experience with working with elements of this approach or some variations which are called mini projects by  authors of coursebooks. These were usually posters about typical Polsh or British festivals or recording mini videos to present a particular set of vocabulary. In the  state school where I work unfortunately this approach is teased at and diminished. I think that most teachers lack knowledge and experience to use this approach to the benefit of the students. However, after the classes I decided not to give up because the examples presented  prove it is possible to implement really good, close to life projects. I have an account on the  e - twinning platform and I have already done a few projects. With the knowledge and support I got in the didactics class I believe I am doomed to success. I th...

Culture

In my context teaching language through culture as well as teaching culture of the target language is based on lessons included in the coursebook I am using. This is New Voices 3 and 4 published by Macmillan where each unit contains a section called CULTURE TODAY.  I also prepare special cultural  lessons before several important festivals such as Christmas, Easter and sometimes Halloween . Since I started using technologies to teach English I have also started to employ them to introduce culture. For example, I prepare Edpuzzle videos and post them on platforms such as Google Classroom for my students to do.  For the future I think it would be  a good idea to include such lessons on more regular basis.  I recommend the following site on which you can find an interesting article about culture as the fifth language skill: fifth skill

Literature in teaching English

I have very little experience in the area of using literature in teaching English, but I think it might be an engaging and effective way to teach this language. I will consider doing it in the future and I think thanks to the didactics class I will be able to prepare a lesson based on a piece of literature. I have already searched for some lesson ideas and below  are links to interesting lesson plans. I also have an idea to prepare an e-twinning project about fairy tales in the next school year and I think it is another way of introducing students in the world of books. LINK 1 LINK 2 LINK 3

TBLT

Obraz
TBLT IS approach which uses the concept of task to both introduce and practise language forms. TBLT SHOULD NOT BE SEEN AS A TOTAL ALTERNATIVE TO PPP BUT IT SHOULD BE  IMPLEMENTED AS IT OFFERS STUDENTS A VERY DIFFERENT LEARNING EXPERIENCE,  THE KINDS OF INTERACTION IN TBL WHICH ARE NEEDED TO PROVIDE THE LEARNERS  WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF USING AND LEARNING LG THAT MATCHES MORE CLOSELY   WITH WHAT THEY WILL HAVE TO DO IT IN REAL LIFE This is what Ken Robinson believes as one of the main proponents of this approach.  I think one couldn’t agree more. In everyday teaching practice there are a lot of opportunities  to introduce a TBLT  approach and luckily it does no involve a total revolution in the way of teaching.  What is  more, this is what  most of us do ona regular basis not even realizing this is called TBL.  I think that what teachers should do is to implement TBLT more consciously,  with their metho...
